Viaplay (Nent) has lost the rights

Tom Brady.
Tom Brady.

Here is a nightmare message for all Swedish NFL fans.

The matches will no longer be broadcast on any Swedish TV channel or streaming service.

My contract with the NFL expired after last season.writes Frederic Johansson, Director of Press at Nenets.

Today, the NFL teams begin their training camps, and in a month and a half, the 2022 season begins with great fanfare as the LA Rams Super Bowl champions face the Buffalo Bills.

And so the new season is fast approaching.

But now comes the sad news for all the Swedish NFL fanatics.

Nent, which has been broadcasting matches for several years on Viaplay and in some cases TV10, has lost its rights.

The agreement has expired

This was confirmed by Frederic Johansson, press director of the television company via SMS.

“The contract with the NFL expired after last season. We never comment on rights that are not part of our offer.”he is writing.

Can you answer whether negotiations are underway for a new agreement?

“No. We never pass on this kind of strategic information to business.”Johansson writes.

It costs more than 2000 SEK

This means that the 2022 NFL season will not be broadcast on any Swedish TV channel or streaming service.

To watch the matches, you must purchase the so-called “NFL Game Pass”, which costs more than 2,000 SEK.

The broadcast of the NFL on Swedish television actually began in the 1980s.

When Nent recently extended its rights (2016-2022), then-television company sports director Bear Nonstead described the whole thing as “a major investment in one of our most exciting rights.”
