Watch over 700,000 videos on Tiktok. Popular artist Ms. Snouske, known for her darkly humorous vocals with a country perspective, performed “Ride me like a dala horse.” Surprisingly, in collaboration with Djurgården star Viktor Edvardsen.
– It went great, right?
Edvardsen smiles broadly when Sportbladet meets him at the national team player’s hotel in Portugal. If you followed the phenomenal feedback on the performance, everything was just as usual as far as Edvardsen was concerned. Comments poured in. He was both praised and ridiculed. There are no in-between stands about the Gothenburger who mostly rounds out the entire event.
– It was a fun thing. My friends think the same. You can treat yourself a little. I am such a person. It was fun, I just stood up and then it went viral.
Are you a fan?
– No, not this way. But it’s a big song and it’s probably been #1 on Spotify for six months?
“People are upset with him.”
How do you see the feedback? Liked a lot but also ridiculed – not least by opposition supporters?
– Always like that with me. I have a mouth where I say what I think. People are upset about it. Or they are upset that I didn’t score against the top seven teams in Allsvenskan. There is always something. But this clip wouldn’t have been that great if another player had done it, but I have to live with that!
His teammate Joel Asuro was shocked when Edvardsen appeared on the feed.
– I was sitting at home and then that girl came up with Victor. I laughed to death! He is usually playful and spontaneous. It’s nice for people to see that side of him, because he’s not the same person on the court as he is off it. But I can’t say that I liked the music right away…
It can be seen that Edvardsen is in a good mood. Not for the notorious musical collaboration in the first place, but because everything is running smoothly in terms of football. After an initial setback, Edvardsen was selected for the January tour after Alexander Gerimjeev withdrew his bid.
– it’s a wonderful feeling. Crazy fun to get involved and show the best version of yourself. I’m one of the oldest players along with Christopher Neiman, Elias Anderson and Samuel Gustafsson. Then you get a little more responsibility, which I think is fun, even if you’re here primarily to perform yourself.
“It says it all about how well Djurgården is doing”
He is very content with the stable winter windows of Djurgården. Boss Anderson managed to bring in Oliver Berg, Carlos Moros Gracia, Jakob Bergstrom and three big talents from Brommapojkarna – led by Lukas Bergvall – before the end of the year. The team is more or less nailed down, while many of the top competitors have a lot of work to do.
– Surely that says it all about how well Djurgården is doing now? We bring in such good players. We have shown that our style of play provides cutting-edge football that also works in Europe. Djurgården have brought in different types of players and we are probably the best among the Allsvenskan teams at the moment… He says and continues:
– The fact that we received so many names says a lot about the Boss’ work. And what are the ambitions of Djurgarden as a club? We’re going to play 8th in the ECL and we want to go far in Europe in the future too, you need that extra width. Looks very good.
In 2022, Edvardsen scored nine goals and nine assists in Allsvenskan. Strong leaves, but anyone who has followed the striker through the autumn knows that he has rarely been completely satisfied with his performance. The 26-year-old is extremely self-critical and struggles to find a balance in it.
– In terms of points, things went well. The first season in Allsvenskan I came tied for first in the points league and in 2022 I finished fifth. But what I miss in my game is smoothness. I still have a lot of ups and downs. Sometimes the lower level is too low and I want to be able to stay at a higher level all the time. But it’s like you say, I’m damn self-critical.
Expect to receive outside proposals
Through thick and thin.
– It is an important driving force for me. After all, I went to Djurgården last year rather than go abroad as I realized there was a lot more to learn before I was ready to make that step. I want to become better. Hence it is difficult to be complacent, although perhaps you should be.
There is obviously a lot of interest from foreign clubs this winter as well.
– That’s a lot. I don’t know where to land. The future will tell. But my focus is on Djurgården and doing everything I can here.
But there are many indications that you will get proposals to decide on?
– From what I’ve heard, it could be related, yeah.
How do you see that?
– I came back the other day and realized that I scored 37 points in two seasons. These are incredible numbers when you think about it. So it was kind of weird not to have the interest, which I think is fun and interesting.
