Victor Edvardsen’s unexpected move behind a hat-trick against IFK Göteborg

IFK Göteborg drowned his hat trick.

The secret of Victor Edvardsen’s success is somewhat unexpected.

– I meditated before the match and that’s something I will continue with, says Sportbladet’s three goal scorer.

With family in the stands and brother in the heels, it was a special match for Blåvitt Victor Edwardson.

When the two teams met last spring, he left the field without goals, but on Tele2, the striker made an offer and single-handedly decided against Djurgarden with all three goals.

– I worked hard week by week. I was close the last time (against my birth) and scored three today, which means a lot. Nine plus nine is still fine, it’s 18 points and I’ve done some in Europe. At the same time, I don’t think I’ve reached my maximum height yet, says Edwardson.

“It becomes very quiet”

Djurgården’s scorer is constantly testing new ways to get there – and before meeting IFK Gothenburg, he started meditating.

– I am such a person that I constantly want to improve things. I train a lot and talk to Victor, our physiotherapist, about what we can do to keep the head in place all the time, so she can survive these tough periods. Then he said I should try to meditate, so I should do it three times a week and be on my own, Edwardson says and continues:

– I did that before the game today as well and that’s something I will continue to do.

Edwardson began practicing meditation on Mondays, and six days later he flooded his old club with a triple.

Coincidence? Maybe not.

– You get very calm. This means that I should not have these thoughts everywhere and just rest. that’s what I want. If you can push these thoughts aside and focus on the right things, Edvardsen says, I think it can pay off well, and continues with a smile:

– She gave good results today. I don’t really want to give Victor credit, but he got it this time.

‘A lot of talk about it’

Gorgarden’s physical trainer Victor Hellander tells more about the initiative.

– I think he feels good about it. We worked with him all year on one thing and another, and then we came up with this and I thought it was worth a try. It’s not a big deal, it’s ten minutes a day.

Was it hard to convince him?

– No, I wouldn’t say that. But you can’t just say “you should,” you have to explain why. There’s a lot of talk about him, it’s this and that, but he’s smart and knows what he wants.

Looks like it paid off?

– Today, yes, yes. Not only should you attribute it to meditation, but it was probably one of those matches where he really felt good about being off-balance. Maybe there were a lot of feelings he gave up at first and then he could play more relaxed.
