Djurgården is drawn as another gold contender Malmo FF before the season. Now, the team is ranked eight in the table after three wins, three draws and three defeats.
Despite losing a lot of points, Djurgarden is happy with the game.
The conflict cannot continue for any length of time. The problem is that if you don’t get results, you will eventually settle on self-confidence, which is the important part of surviving. We don’t play great football all the time, but we play better than those we meet in every game without getting results. If we continue, we will achieve results with us, says coach Thomas Lagerlöf.
‘It’s frustrating’
Hjalmar Ekdal is on the same track.
– We have a good feeling and self-confidence. We played well last time against Elvesburg even though we didn’t win. It’s frustrating not to have the points with us, but we know that in the long run it will pay off. I think we can all agree that we did a good job, but we got half a good return.
How stressful is it to slide behind the table?
We have to play one game at a time and feel like we’re playing well and have chances. Almost everything in principle. It only took a little time so it’s dangerous to get nervous. We have to stay calm and trust that it pays off.
Tonight, Malmö FF awaits at Tele2 Arena. A team that has suited Djurgarden well in recent years. There was a cup semi-final loss two months ago, but at Allsvenskan, Djurgården has lost only one of their last six encounters (away from their stadium in July 2020).
– I actually do not know what it depends on. We meet a great team and then everyone is tagged and wants to give their best. Historically Malmö has had a hard time on Tele2 and we are strong there. “We only have a slight psychological advantage by playing on Tele2,” says Ekdal.
