He has frequent meetings with the stellar quartet
First gold in 30 years.
But Ystads IF already has a plan for how to stay at the top: rejuvenate the team and then attract the stars of the national team.
We want to be part of the great talent in Sweden, says Oscar Karlin.
Ystads IF He is the Swedish handball champion for the first time since 1992 after an unforgettable evening on the town square.
There is already a plan for how to stay on top.
First of all, YIF is allowed to keep almost the entire team, which is almost unique for a champion team that usually loses one and two of its best overseas players after a gold medal.
The leaves of the 43-year-old Dalibor Dodder. But YIF’s choice is not to extend with the veteran.
Two new wingers are coming in: left-back Linus Fernbrand, 27, of IFK Ystad and Ebbe Stankiewicz, 20, of Bergen, Norway (yes, he’s the son of old great goalkeeper Jan Stankovic).
If Philip Steinmalm doesn’t cross his shoulder, but can only play in defense in the future as well, it might also be appropriate to recruit the left winger.
‘We want to invest in youth’
Coach Oscar Carlin told Sportbladet that they would also revitalize the team.
– We’re thinking of a slightly different strategy for how to go after Kristianstad and Seehof in the coming years.
Because despite the fresh gold, Carlén believes they are still hunting Kristianstad and Sävehof, who have been dominant for the past decade.
Our average lifespan was high and my intention, which was also part of my contract extension until 2026, was to be able to work a little bit longer. We are in some form of generational change. Dado is now gone and Kim (Anderson) has one year left.
We want to invest in younger players and share and tampas about Sweden’s great talent and its development. At the same time, we want to retain experience. Philip Steinmalm and Anton Manson have two years left. They exemplify the experience and then we fill in the little ones.
I met the stars this summer
But at the same time, you have a back path in your strategy.
Three of the national team’s biggest stars – Jim Gottfriedsson, 29, Niklas Ekberg, 33, and Lucas Sandel, 25 – all played for Ystads IF before their move abroad, and we can of course add Lucas Nilsson, 25.
YIF maintains a permanent dialogue with the Quartet, with everyone having their base in Ystad when in their home country of Sweden.
This summer, Carlin, Senior Sponsor and Vice Chairman Ingmar Svensson and Sports Director Marcus Lindgren sat down with everyone in the all-star quartet.
– It’s important to stay in touch. You never know what’s going on in a player’s skull and what’s going on in their life. We want to show that we are here and that we are thinking of them; We’re investing and we’re clear we want them to play here the day they come home, if they’re up for it and ready to do the job,” says Carlin.
Experience is also required
Millionaire and real estate king Svensson can be given a major role when it comes to creating the conditions to bring the big stars home.
They must feel that they are getting help. If they’ve been out for many years, Svenson says, they need help when they get home.
Even if you want to rejuvenate and look for giant talents and these guys will belong to the older keeper when they move home, would you like to bet on them, Oscar Carlin?
– Of course. Experience is also required in the team. If we want to be where we want to be, it is not only possible to build on our products and talents, says Coach.
