He started his career in the best league in the world in the 1997/98 season at the New York Islanders, but is associated primarily with the Boston Bruins where he played 14 seasons – all as captain.

The 45-year-old icon announced on his social media accounts that he is putting the skates on the shelf.

But before retirement is effected, Chara will return to TD Garden and sign a one-day contract with Boston, officially ending his career as “Bruin”.
