Zesera Mosovich on Anne-Catherine Berger’s cancer diagnosis

Zisera Mosovic suddenly took two big steps towards becoming the number one goalkeeper for both Chelsea and Sweden.

The conditions could have been more pleasant.

As soon as someone mentions the word “cancer,” it’s like pressing a button to me, it reminds me of how fragile life is, Mosovich says.

The situation for the national team is not dramatic. It is about the choice of veteran Hedvig Lindahl to step down after the European Football Championship to allow the younger generation to advance in the first place Zesera MosovichJennifer Falk and Emma Holmgren. She is not on this team at all.

– I have made it clear that I want the three best goalkeepers for the World Cup, but I want to look at the other goalkeepers now. But Hedwig may be in a squad in the future, says union leader Peter Gerhardsson.

“I want to play”

Mosovich has settled with Jennifer Falk closest to Lindahl in recent years. So it is not important that you are the one who gets the trust in Finland.

– Before every meeting, I have a situation that I want to play, I want to take first place. So this part has not changed for this camp. It’s exactly the same. I want to play. Then I don’t believe in getting into and taking over a group, it’s a long process somewhere. Mosovich says it’s still a national team we’re talking about.

In the Chelsea FC team, the situation is similar, but at the same time incomparable.

Since Mosovic came to Chelsea in January 2021, Anne-Catherine Berger has often been the London side’s first choice in goal, although the Swede started in earnest to challenge the spot this spring.

Now the life of the German veteran has been postponed.

Cancer return

In November 2017, Berger was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Her health was declared only a few months later, but last week the 31-year-old announced that her cancer had returned.

– The image of my goal is very clear in the club team and the national team, and that is that I want to be the number one goalkeeper. This is something that has affected me a lot, Zisera Mosovich says.

Football doesn’t become so important when someone in my environment receives a notification of cancer. It can go really fast, there’s just something about the word Cancer…strong, but powerful in a negative way. It can be very shocking and very surprising. It’s something you can’t control and it’s scary when you can’t control life’s outcome.

“The Year of Possibilities”

Perhaps the whim of fate opened the way in both the club and the national team for Zisera Mosovic. But it’s not the events around her that are setting her high sporting expectations for this season.

– I understand that from the outside it looks like “Hedvig isn’t around and now this happened at Chelsea, and he’s opening up.” But the way I see it, my individual goals and plans are exactly the same as they were before these ads. I wanted to be number one before all this too, Mosovich says.

– I have something exciting going on. I see this as a year of opportunity.
